In 2008, HERE began a new programming initiative for young audiences with startHERE, curated in collaboration with Jeffrey Mousseau. Through this initiative, HERE includes high quality young people’s programming as a highlight of its annual season. With work showcasing the integration of puppetry, object theatre, multi-media, and live music in dramatic storytelling, startHERE provides a regularly scheduled opportunity for younger audiences to have access to the latest trends in the performing arts.

startHERE builds upon occasional productions (such as Alice in Wonderland and The Adventures of Charcoal Boy in 2005-2006, Poli Dégaine and Frankenstein in 2007-2008) that have been produced at HERE for the enjoyment of family audiences. Sofie Krog Teater’s Diva was presented by startHERE in February 2009. In January 2010, we premiered our first startHERE HARP production, Jeffrey Mousseau and Barbara Wiechmann’s Aunt Leaf, a new original performance for children ages nine and up exploring the creative and destructive nature of the imagination.
